Château Phélan Ségur 2022, a monumental vintage
Happy end! The year was early, the frost spared us, flowering was even. And yet, it only took 15 minutes to wipe out a year’s work on our plots in the north of the appellation. The suddenness and violence of the hailstorm on 20 June were unprecedented.
After the shock, all hands turned to providing the necessary care for the vineyard! Relief! While the summer remained dry and the heat was oppressive, the vineyards supported by the finely tuned work of the winegrowers, bravely withstood this new trial!
Respect and admiration! After a historically short and low-yielding harvest, this extraordinary fruit was vinified with precision and delicacy. The key was to retain the freshness and balance of grapes with unprecedented concentration and structure. The result is enthralling for its richness and power.
Wonder! Finally, 2022 will go down in the history of the estate as being the last vintage for Luc Peyronnet, Vineyard Manager, who served our beautiful vineyard with talent, humility and passion for 30 years. I join the Gardinier family in thanking him for his commitment to his teams and to the estate! Fond regards!
